2016 Mitsubishi Lancer Earns Four-Star Safety Rating From Federal Government
|
WASHINGTON – The refreshed 2016 Mitsubishi Lancer sedan earned a four-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Five stars is the highest rating.
On sale now at Mitsubishi dealerships, the 2016 Lancer received four stars in the front, side and rollover crash tests.
Standard safety equipment includes seven airbags, including a driver’s knee airbag, antilock brakes, electronic stability control and traction control.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has not rated the 2016 Lancer. But the 2015 Lancer is a 2015 Top Safety Pick.
The 2015 Lancer scored an “acceptable” rating in the IIHS small overlap front crash test and “good” ratings in all other crash tests. The small overlap front crash test replicates what happens when the front corner of a vehicle collides with another vehicle or an object like a tree or utility pole.
Key Lancer competitors include the Chevrolet Cruze, Ford Focus, Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla.
Edmunds says: Car shoppers keeping score should note that the 2016 Ford Focus and 2016 Toyota Corolla earned the highest five-star overall safety rating from NHTSA. The 2016 Chevrolet Cruze and 2016 Honda Civic have not been rated.
