2016 Honda Accord Sedan and Coupe Earn 2015 Top Safety Pick+ Award

ARLINGTON, Virginia – The 2016 Honda Accord sedan and coupe earned the 2015 Top Safety Pick+ award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

The rating applies to 2016 Accords equipped with optional front crash prevention from the Honda Sensing suite of driver assistance technologies.

Honda Sensing technologies include a collision-mitigation braking system, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, road-departure mitigation and adaptive cruise control.

Honda Sensing is standard equipment on the Touring models and optional on LX, LX-S, Sport, EX and EX-L models.

“The Honda Accord sedan and coupe both have improved front-crash prevention ratings for 2016,” said the Institute in a statement on Wednesday. “Previously, the midsize cars were available with forward-collision warning only, earning a basic rating. Now their optional systems include automatic braking as well.”

The two avoided collisions in both the 12 mph and 25 mph track tests conducted by the Institute.

On sale now at Honda dealerships, the Accords earn “good” ratings in all five Institute crash tests.

The 2016 Honda Accord sedan and coupe also earned the highest five-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Key Accord competitors include the Ford Fusion, Nissan Altima and Toyota Camry.

Edmunds says: Safety-minded car shoppers should note that the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has not rated the 2016 Ford Fusion, Nissan Altima and Toyota Camry.
