2016 Chrysler Town & Country, Dodge Grand Caravan Recalled for Hood Problem

WASHINGTON – Fiat-Chrysler is recalling 1,624 2016 Chrysler Town & Country and Dodge Grand Caravan minivans in the U.S. because the hood may open unexpectedly, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

“In the affected vehicles, the bolts that attach the hood striker may loosen and, as a result, the hood may open unexpectedly while driving,” said NHTSA in its recall summary. “The driver’s vision may be obstructed, increasing the risk of a crash.”

The affected minivans were built from August 19, 2015 to August 27, 2015.

“There are no related injuries, accidents, warranty claims or other complaints,” wrote Fiat-Chrysler spokesman Eric Mayne in response to a query from Edmunds.

He added that most of the minivans are still in dealers’ hands. The problem was discovered during an internal audit.

Chrysler and Dodge dealers will install new hood striker bolts with the proper torque. The recall is expected to begin on November 6. Owners can contact Fiat-Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403.

Edmunds says: Owners of these vehicles should wait for their official recall notice and then schedule a service appointment with their dealers. If you have an immediate concern, it’s best to contact your dealer now.
