DETROIT – The high-performance 2016 BMW X4 M40i, a new range-topping addition to BMW’s compact crossover series is priced at $58,795, including a $995 destination charge, BMW announced at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show.
In comparison, the base 2016 X4 xDrive28i starts at $46,245, including shipping.
Bound for BMW dealerships in February, the all-wheel-drive X4 M40i targets the Audi Q5, Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class and Porsche Macan.
The X4 M40i is equipped with a new TwinPower Turbo engine – a 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder that delivers 355 horsepower and 343 pound-feet of torque. The engine is coupled with a standard eight-speed Steptronic automatic transmission and paddle shifters.
It accelerates from zero to 60 mph in 4.7 seconds and its top speed is electronically limited to 150 mph.
Edmunds says: Crossover shoppers should be thrilled that BMW kept the base price of one of the best performance-oriented models on the market under $60,000.
