2016 BMW M4 GTS Roars Into BMW Dealerships Next Year

WOODCLIFF LAKE, New Jersey – The 2016 BMW M4 GTS, a high-performance version of the BMW M4 coupe, will arrive at BMW dealerships in the U.S. in the first half of next year.

BMW spokesman Hector Arellano-Belloc told Edmunds that pricing will be announced closer to the car’s launch date.

“The M4 GTS is road legal, so you can go to a track and race it for fun,” Arellano-Belloc said in a phone conversation. “But then you can go back home and use it to get groceries.”

Key rivals include the 2016 Cadillac ATS-V coupe and Mercedes-AMG C63 coupe.

The special-edition M4 GTS will go into limited production, with just 700 units built for worldwide distribution. BMW said 300 of those are allocated for the U.S.

Performance is a key attribute.

The M4 GTS is equipped with a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine that uses a water-injection system to boost power to 493 horsepower, an increase of 16 percent over the standard M4. The engine is linked to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Drive settings range from “moderately sporty” to “extremely sporty.”

Exterior cues include an active front splitter, a large rear wing and taillights with BMW’s new OLED technology for a unique look.

The rear seats are removed to help the M4 GTS shed more pounds.

Cabin details include Acid Orange touches, a fire extinguisher and special M sport seats.

The M4 GTS turned in a Nurburgring lap time of 7 minutes 28 seconds.

Edmunds says: Even though the M4 GTS is several months away from its U.S. introduction, prospective buyers should get the conversation going with their BMW dealers. The high-performance version of the M4 promises to be a true collector’s item.
