2015 Ford F-150 Recalled for Unexpected Adaptive Cruise Control Braking
DEARBORN, Michigan – Ford is recalling 36,857 2015 Ford F-150 pickup trucks in North America for unexpected adaptive cruise control braking, the automaker said on Wednesday.
“When passing a large, highly reflective truck, the adaptive cruise control radar in some of these vehicles could incorrectly identify the truck as being in the F-150 lane of travel when it is not,” Ford said in a statement. “As a result, the vehicle might apply the brakes until the truck is no longer perceived to be in the lane of travel.
“The collision-warning system red warning light might also flash and a tone might be heard at the same time. When this happens, the brake lights will illuminate. The potential duration of this unexpected adaptive cruise control braking could increase the risk of a crash involving a vehicle behind the F-150.”
Ford said it has received a report of one accident. No injuries have been reported.
Affected F-150s were built at Dearborn Truck Plant from March 18, 2014 through August 5, 2015 and at Kansas City Assembly Plant from August 11, 2014 through August 6, 2015.
Ford dealers will update the adaptive cruise control module software. The recall is expected to begin the week of October 19. Owners can contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332.
No information about the recall has been posted on the website of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which oversees vehicle safety in the U.S.
Edmunds says: Owners of these trucks should schedule a service appointment with their Ford dealer once they receive an official recall notice. Those with an immediate concern should contact their dealer now.
