2012-’13 Suzuki SX4 Recalled for Loss of Power Steering Assist

WASHINGTON – Suzuki Motor of America is recalling 18,673 2012-’13 Suzuki SX4 sedans for loss of power steering assist, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

“Insufficient clearance between the power steering pump body and the power steering fluid control valve may cause improper movement of the valve, and as a result, the power steering pump may seize,” said NHTSA in its recall summary. “A seizure of the power steering pump would cause a loss of power steering assist, requiring extra steering effort at lower speeds, increasing the risk of a crash.”

The affected SX4s were built from September 3, 2011 to April 5, 2013.

Suzuki has not reported any injuries, crashes or fatalities linked to the recall to federal safety regulators.

Suzuki service providers will replace the power steering pump. The recall is expected to begin on October 9. Owners can contact Suzuki customer service at 1-800-934-0934.
