2006-'07 Chevrolet Trailblazer Among GM SUVs Recalled for Fire Risk

WASHINGTON – General Motors is recalling 9,932 older midsize SUVs in the U.S., including the 2006-’07 Buick Rainier, Chevrolet TrailBlazer and GMC Envoy because of a fire risk, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The 2006 GMC Envoy XL and Chevrolet TrailBlazer EXT are also included in the recall.

The vehicles were “mistakenly excluded from an earlier recall,” GM spokesman Alan Adler told Edmunds on Monday.

“Customers are urged to park these vehicles outside until repairs have been made,” Adler wrote.

“Fluid may enter into the driver’s door master power window switch module, causing corrosion that could result in a short in the circuit board, causing window switches to become inoperative,” said NHTSA in its recall summary. “Previously, the affected vehicles may have had their master power window switch module treated with a protective coating, instead of having it replaced.

“The protective coating may not eliminate the risk that the circuit board could short and result in a fire, even while the vehicle is unattended.”

GM said it is aware of four fires, but no crashes, injuries or fatalities.

GM dealers will install a new driver’s door switch module. A date has not been set for the recall. Owners can contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 and GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782.

Edmunds says: Owners of these vehicles should follow GM’s instructions until they are able to schedule a service appointment with their dealer.
