Honda Expands Takata Airbag Recall To Cover 2003-’04 Honda CR-V

TORRANCE, California – American Honda Motor Co. is expanding the nationwide recall of defective Takata airbags to include approximately 127,000 2003-’04 Honda CR-Vs.

The affected passenger front airbag inflators were not previously subject to either a recall or a safety improvement campaign.

“Honda has sufficient replacement parts supplies to begin recall repairs of the added vehicles immediately, nationwide,” the company said in a statement.

About 78,000 of the affected 2003-’04 CR-V SUVs are included in existing passenger front airbag inflator recalls and Honda safety improvement campaigns. They will now switch over to the new recall.

Honda said the updated recall now includes approximately 3.4 million Takata passenger front airbag inflators now requiring replacement.

Owners of the affected CR-Vs will receive formal recall notices in the mail within 60 days. Owners can contact Honda customer service at (888) 234-2138.

“American Honda continues to urge owners of Honda and Acura vehicles affected by the Takata airbag inflator recalls to get their vehicles repaired at authorized dealers as soon as possible,” the company said.

Last week, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said the recall of defective Takata airbags is about to expand by “a few thousand vehicles.”

The expanded recall also includes the 2005-’08 Mazda 6, 2005-’08 Subaru Legacy and 2005-’08 Subaru Outback.

NHTSA said it will update its list of affected vehicles in a few days.

Once the vehicle identification numbers (VINs) are posted, owners are urged to contact their dealer to schedule a service appointment.

Edmunds says: Consumers should check the NHTSA website to see if their vehicle has been added to the list of those with defective Takata airbags. Dealers also will be able to provide the latest information in this ongoing recall.
