2016 Smart Fortwo Electric Drive Earns Four-Star Safety Rating From Federal Government

WASHINGTON – The carryover 2016 Smart Fortwo Electric Drive subcompact car earned a four-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Five stars is the highest rating.
On sale now at Smart dealerships, the Fortwo Electric Drive received four stars in the front crash test, five stars in the side crash test and four stars in the rollover crash test.
Standard safety equipment includes antilock brakes, traction control and electronic stability control.
NHTSA has not rated the redesigned 2016 Smart Fortwo coupe and cabrio models.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has not rated the 2016 Smart Fortwo.
Key Smart Fortwo competitors include the Chevrolet Spark EV, Fiat 500e and Nissan Leaf.
Edmunds says: Car shoppers keeping score should note that the 2016 Nissan Leaf earned a four-star overall safety rating from NHTSA. The 2016 Chevrolet Spark EV and Fiat 500e have not been rated.
