DETROIT – The 2016 Honda Civic and 2016 Honda Pilot are among the finalists for the 2016 North American Car and Truck/Utility of the Year (NACTOY), making Honda a dominant force in this year’s selections.
The other cars on the list are the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu and Mazda MX-5 Miata, while the truck and SUV making the final cut are the 2016 Nissan Titan XD and Volvo XC90.
All six finalists have been completely redesigned for the 2016 model year.
The NACTOY awards provide consumers with a unique perspective in that they are not given by a single publication, website, radio or television station. Rather, they are decided by an independent jury of 53 automotive journalists from the U.S. and Canada who represent a variety of media outlets.
Jurors voted in early December for the vehicles that they felt set new benchmarks in their market segments for innovation, design, safety, handling, driver satisfaction and value.
The panel will next vote for their choices among the finalists, and winners will be announced on January 11, prior to the opening of the 2016 Detroit Auto Show.
The 2015 Volkswagen Golf and 2015 Ford F-150 were named the 2015 North American Car and Truck/Utility of the Year.
Edmunds says: This list of finalists should give car shoppers a good idea of what the experts consider to be the best vehicles of 2016.
