2016 Chevrolet Colorado, GMC Canyon Recalled for Console Compartment Latch Problem
|
WASHINGTON – General Motors is recalling 8,763 2016 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon trucks because the console compartment lid latch assembly may fail to keep the compartment door closed in a crash, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
“The contents stored in the console may strike the vehicle occupants, increasing their risk of injury,” NHTSA said in its recall summary.
A stop-delivery order has been issued on the trucks.
GM is not aware of any incidents of injuries or accidents linked to the recall.
The affected Colorado trucks were built from August 25, 2015 to September 24, 2015. The affected Canyon trucks were built from August 28, 2015 to September 24, 2015.
GM told federal safety regulators that trucks built after September 24, 2015 have correct console-door latch assemblies.
The problem was discovered internally.
Chevrolet dealers and GMC dealers will replace the console compartment door latch assembly. A date has not been set for the recall. Owners can contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or GMC customer service at (800) 462-8782.
Edmunds says: GM says it is working with the supplier to obtain the required parts as quickly as possible. When a sufficient number of parts are available, the recall bulletin will be released and dealers can begin repairing the trucks. Contact your dealer in the meantime if you have an immediate concern.
