2015 Ford Transit Recalled Because Rear Axle Shafts Could Fracture

DEARBORN, Michigan – Ford is recalling 1,265 2015 Ford Transit dual-rear-wheel vans because the rear axle shafts could fracture, the automaker said on Tuesday.
This could either cause a “loss of motive power without warning while driving, or unintended vehicle movement when the vehicle is in Park without the parking brake engaged, increasing the risk of injury or crash,” Ford said in a statement.
Ford is not aware of any accidents or injuries linked to the recall.
The affected vehicles were built from May 1, 2015 through June 26, 2015.
Ford dealers will replace the rear axle shafts. Formal recall notices will go out to owners the week of February 8. Owners can contact Ford customer service at 1-800-392-3673.
No information about the recall has been posted on the website of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which oversees vehicle safety in the United States.
Edmunds says: Ford told Edmunds that parts are expected to be available at dealerships by February 1, ahead of the formal recall notices. If customers experience an issue in the meantime, they should contact their local dealership.
