2014-'15 McLaren P1 Recalled for Faulty Hood Latch

WASHINGTON – McLaren Automotive Inc. is recalling 122 2014-’15 McLaren P1 hybrid supercars in the U.S. because of a faulty hood latch, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

“The affected vehicles have a secondary hood latch that may not properly re-engage,” said NHTSA in its recall summary. “As a result, if the primary latch is released inadvertently, the hood may open while the vehicle is moving.

“If the hood opens while driving, it may increase the risk of a crash.”

McLaren told federal safety regulators it received a report in December from a customer that the hood of his car opened while the vehicle was moving.

McLaren spokesman John Paolo Canton told Edmunds there are no injuries, crashes or fatalities linked to the recall.

The affected P1s were built from March 1, 2013 to October 31, 2015.

McLaren dealers will replace the hood latch with a newly designed latch. The recall has started. Owners can contact McLaren customer service at 1-646-429-8916.

Edmunds says: McLaren says that parts are available for this repair. If you own one of these P1s, it’s time to schedule a service appointment with your dealer.
