2013 Ford Explorer, Taurus Among Ford Vehicles Recalled for Fire Risk

WASHINGTON – Ford is recalling 868 2013 Ford Explorer, Explorer Police Utility, Taurus, Taurus Police Interceptor, Flex, Lincoln MKS and Lincoln MKT vehicles because of a fire risk, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

“The fuel delivery module may crack, allowing fuel to leak,” said NHTSA in its recall summary. “A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source may result in a fire.”

Ford told federal safety regulators the affected vehicles are safe to drive if they do not exhibit a fuel odor or a leak.

If owners notice either condition, they are urged to contact their Ford or Lincoln dealer immediately for the repair.

A Ford spokesman did not respond immediately to a query from Edmunds asking if there are any injuries, accidents, fires or fatalities linked to the recall.

Ford and Lincoln dealers will replace the fuel delivery module. The recall has begun. Owners can contact Ford customer service at (866) 436-7332.

Edmunds says: Ford said parts are available to fix all affected vehicles. If you own one of these vehicles, call your dealer now to make a service appointment.
