MASON CITY, Iowa – Helping others is in Mason City Ford Lincoln’s blood.
It’s one of the reasons the dealership will host a blood drive on February 11 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
The dealership opens up its showroom floor to the American Red Cross twice a year to collect as much blood as it can from the local community, often 15 to 50 units.
Sales Manager Luke Schmitt introduced the blood drive in 2012 after the Saturn dealership he worked at had such success with it, he told Edmunds.
“Sometimes we give away a free oil change or car detailing or a discount as an incentive to anyone who donates a pint,” Schmitt said.
The gesture shows the community that the dealership cares about them and that ultimately leads to car sales because it draws people into the showroom, he said.
“I have sold vehicles to those who come in for the blood drive,” Schmitt said. “They start looking around and then talk to a salesman and before you know it, they are buying a car.”
