2017 Porsche 911 Targa 4 Unveiled at 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show

LOS ANGELES. – Porsche’s already broad 911 line is further expanded today with the addition of the 2017 911 Targa 4 and 4S at the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show.

As with previous Targas, the 911 Targa 4’s roof section stows behind the rear seats via the push of a button, leaving the sports car’s B-pillars and wraparound rear window in place.

The Targa 4 and 4S are both equipped with all-wheel drive and are available with either a seven-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch (PDK) automated-manual transmission. Like the Carrera 4 and 4S, both Targa models utilize turbocharged 3.0-liter horizontally opposed six-cylinder engines producing 370 horsepower and 420 hp, respectively. Power increases 20 hp in both trims relative to the 2016 versions. 4S models also offer optional rear-wheel steering.

EPA fuel economy ratings are not yet available, though as with the Targa 4 and 4S’s coupe counterparts, Porsche says to expect improvement over the outgoing normally aspirated engines.

On sale in April 2016, the Targa 4 will start at $108,600, while the 4S will start at $122,600, increases of $5,670 and $5,070, respectively over the 2016 models.

Edmunds says: It doesn’t matter what Porsche does to the 911. People will buy it.
