2017 Audi Q7 To Debut Sirius/XM Emergency Services With Human Touch

HERNDON, Virginia – The 2017 Audi Q7 SUV will be the first model in the automaker’s lineup to feature the latest Sirius/XM automatic emergency services with a unique human touch.

The 2017 Q7 will begin arriving at Audi dealerships early next year.

The service will trickle down to other models with the Audi Connect Gen 2 connectivity system, including the 2017 Audi A4 and A6 sedans.

The Sirius/XM service will provide Audi Connect emergency response as part of the SOS feature in Audi vehicles, which includes automated 911 calling in the event of airbag deployment.

Occupants will also be able to request emergency assistance manually by pressing the SOS button in the overhead console.

What’s unique about the new service is that it uses a “two-agent” model, in which the occupants of the vehicle are kept on the phone with an operator while a second operator contacts first responders as necessary.

That way drivers, and passengers involved in a crash or other emergency situation are never out of contact with another human voice.

While waiting for police, fire or EMTs to arrive, the in-car system continues to monitor the vehicle’s status and transmit its location to the emergency personnel.

Owners of models with the new system will also be able to alert police and track the vehicle if it’s stolen, request roadside assistance, obtain service reminders and operate such functions as door locks remotely using a smartphone.

Edmunds says: The latest Audi and Sirius/XM connectivity service adds a welcome human touch to stressful emergency situations.
