WASHINGTON – American Honda Motor Co. is recalling 25,367 2015-’16 Honda Fit LX hatchbacks because the rear grab-handle brackets were not manufactured properly and may interfere with side airbag deployment, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
“If the side curtain airbags are punctured upon deployment, the outboard seat occupants may be at a higher risk of injury during a crash,” NHTSA said in its recall summary.
The affected vehicles are not equipped with a sunroof.
A stop-sale order on the vehicles was issued on October 23 until they are repaired.
Honda says the issue was discovered during internal testing.
The affected vehicles were built from April 11, 2014 to July 2, 2015.
Honda dealers will replace the rear grab-handle bracket. The recall is expected to begin on December 4. Owners can contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138.
Edmunds says: Owners of these vehicles should schedule a service appointment with their Honda dealer once they receive their official recall notice. Your dealer can help with any immediate concerns.
