2011-'13 Dodge Durango, Jeep Grand Cherokee Recall for Fire Risk Expands

WASHINGTON – Fiat-Chrysler is recalling an additional 35,673 2011-’13 Dodge Durango and Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs for vanity lamp wiring that may short, increasing the risk of a fire, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The recall now affects 388,504 SUVs.

“The wiring for the vanity lamp in the sun visor may short circuit, after having been remedied for a prior recall for vanity lamp wiring,” NHTSA said in its recall summary on Friday. “This recall is also addressing certain vehicles that have not been remedied under that prior recall.”

The recall expansion includes vehicles built from December 3, 2009 to September 1, 2012.

“The vanity lamp wiring may short, increasing the risk of a vehicle fire.”

Fiat-Chrysler said it is unaware of any related injuries or accidents.

“Overheating conditions were reported among a small percentage of vehicles serviced in connection with a related recall conducted previously,” the company said on December 24.

A remedy plan for the vehicles is still being developed. A date has not been set for the recall. Owners can contact Fiat-Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403.

Edmunds says: Owners of these SUVs should wait for their official recall notice and then schedule a service appointment with their Dodge or Jeep dealer. But if you have an immediate concern, it’s best to contact your dealer now.
