SEOUL, South Korea – The 2017 Kia Sportage is set to battle the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V with a bold new look inspired by jets. Kia showed off three official photos of the exterior of the redesigned Sportage today ahead of the compact SUV’s unveiling on September 15 at the 2015 Frankfurt Auto Show.
The Korean automaker said the new Sportage echoes “the contrast of smooth and sharp shapes found on some of the most iconic modern fighter jets.”
Other design cues include more dramatic wheel arches and a rear end derived from the 2013 Kia Provo concept car.
The fourth-generation Sportage gets a facial makeover featuring Kia’s “tiger-nose” grille and new headlights.
U.S. launch timing, pricing and technical specifications were not announced.
Kia said the new Sportage will feature its “highest-quality cabin to date.”
Other key Sportage competitors include the Mazda CX-5 and Mitsubishi Outlander Sport.
The 2016 Sportage, which carries over with minor changes, is on sale now at Kia dealerships.
Edmunds says: Compact SUV buyers making long-range plans will want to take a good look at the 2017 Sportage.
