2017 Audi A4 Arrives at Dealerships in Early 2016

FRANKFURT, Germany – The redesigned 2017 Audi A4 sedan will arrive at U.S. Audi dealerships in early 2016, following a worldwide debut on Tuesday at the 2015 Frankfurt Auto Show.

The sporty Audi S4, which debuted alongside the A4, will be coming to the U.S., too, but Audi of America spokesman Mark Dahncke said there is no launch date at this point or model-year designation. “It is further out (than the A4),” he said.

Timing has not been defined for the U.S. on the new Audi Allroad wagon, either, he said. But it will be available here at some point.

U.S. pricing has not been announced on the upcoming A4, S4 and Allroad.

The latest generation of the A4 sedan is larger, lighter and more aerodynamic than the outgoing model.

A4 buyers will have a choice of diesel or gasoline versions in the U.S. An upgraded 2.0-liter four-cylinder TFSI gasoline-powered A4 delivers 252 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque. The 2.0-liter four-cylinder TDI diesel engine model delivers 190 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque.

All A4s are equipped with a seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission and are available with front-wheel drive or Quattro all-wheel drive.

Buyers can expect a broad array of driver assistance systems on the A4, including adaptive cruise control with traffic jam assist.

While Audi showed off the 2017 S4 sedan and S4 Avant, a wagon model, at Frankfurt, Dahncke said the U.S. will only get the sedan version.

The 2017 S4 is equipped with a new 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 engine. Audi AG says the S4 delivers 354 hp and 368 lb-ft of torque, but Dahncke said U.S. specifications have not been confirmed.

The S4 is equipped with an eight-speed Tiptronic transmission.

“No decision has been made on a manual (transmission) for the U.S.,” Dahncke said.

He describes the S4 as “a sports car with a backseat.”

The A4 and S4 target the BMW 3 Series, Cadillac ATS and Mercedes-Benz C-Class.

Key Allroad competitors include the BMW X1, Subaru Outback and Volvo XC70.

Edmunds says: More power, less weight and new features should make the new A4 even more competitive against the BMW 3 Series which also received a round of updates this year.
