HERNDON, Virginia – Volkswagen is promoting its advanced connectivity, available in models like the 2016 Tiguan and Golf R, in a multimedia campaign starring actors Adam Scott, Michael Peña and Christopher Mintz-Plasse.
In each video, the celebrities use voice commands, touchscreens and steering-wheel controls to operate the latest Volkswagen App-Connect system, which allows smartphone integration of various functions using Apple CarPlay, AndroidAuto and MirrorLink.
Volkswagen says it’s the first brand to offer all three major smartphone integration platforms and notes that App-Connect will be available on more than 75 percent of the 2016 VW models sold in the U.S., starting with the Tiguan and Golf R.
The updated version of the Tiguan competes against such models as the BMW X1, Ford Escape, Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4, while major competitors to the Golf R include the Ford Focus, Mazda 3 and Subaru Impreza.
In the first 30-second spot, Scott is getting ready for a party, and it quickly becomes clear that Peña is not invited. When Mintz-Plasse lets the cat out of the bag, Peña uses App-Connect voice commands to locate the necessary supplies to throw his own party.
“With Volkswagen’s App-Connect, consumers will find one of the most innovative and comprehensive suites of smartphone connectivity, available in the majority of our vehicles,” said Vinay Shahani, vice president of marketing for Volkswagen of America, in a statement. “Our new campaign humorously shows how Volkswagen App-Connect allows drivers to access their favorite smartphone functions in a simple and seamless way.”
The campaign, created in partnership with Volkswagen’s ad agency, Deutsch, includes a number of television commercials, as well as digital and social media spots.
Additional ads in the campaign will also star the multi-talented Scott, Pena and Mintz-Plasse, including the next video, entitled “Sorry.”
