ARLINGTON, Virginia – The 2016 Subaru WRX sedan with an optional front-crash prevention system earned the highest 2015 Top Safety Pick+ award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
On sale now at Subaru dealerships, the 2016 WRX features a new optional EyeSight driver-assistance and safety system.
The system is part of a $4,095 option package that also includes a navigation system, Harman Kardon sound system, keyless access and start, a blind-spot detection system and rear cross-traffic alert.
The 2016 WRX earned “good” ratings in all five of the Institute’s crash tests and a “superior” rating for the optional front-crash prevention system.
“The EyeSight-equipped WRX avoided collisions in track tests at 12 mph and 25 mph,” said the Institute in a statement on Friday.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has not rated the 2016 WRX.
Key WRX competitors include the Chevrolet Cruze, Ford Focus and Honda Civic.
Edmunds says: The Institute is just beginning to rate the 2016 models. Car shoppers should note that the 2016 Chevrolet Cruze, Ford Focus and Honda Civic have not been rated yet.
