2016 Chevrolet Malibu Priced at $22,500

DETROIT – The redesigned 2016 Chevrolet Malibu midsize sedan will start at $22,500, including an $875 destination charge, when it arrives at Chevrolet dealerships at the end of the year, GM announced on Thursday.

The pricing on the base 2016 Malibu L, a new trim level, is $790 less than the price of the 2015 Malibu LS, the previous base model.

GM said the base price of the Malibu is designed to undercut many of the key competitors in the crowded midsize sedan segment. The Malibu targets the Ford Fusion, Honda Accord, Nissan Altima and Toyota Camry.

Standard equipment on the 2016 Malibu includes 10 airbags, cruise control, push-button start and stop-start technology on the base 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine.

The midrange 2016 Malibu LT is priced at $25,895, including shipping, reflecting a $1,335 price increase over the 2015 Malibu LT.

The LT model adds LED daytime running lights and eight-way power driver seat.

A new top-of-the-line model, the 2016 Malibu Premier, is priced at $31,795.

Pricing for the 2016 Malibu Hybrid will be announced closer to its on-sale date next spring.

Pricing on 2016 Malibu options, including the Teen Driver package for the LT model, will be announced later, a Chevrolet spokesman said. Teen Driver mutes the audio or any device paired with the vehicle when front seat occupants aren’t wearing seatbelts.

The safety feature is standard on Malibu Premier.

Edmunds says: Car shoppers making end-of-the-year plans will appreciate the competitive pricing on the base 2016 Malibu.
