2014 Ram 2500/3500 Among Heavy-Duty Trucks Recalled for Steering-Components Problem

AUBURN HILLS, Michigan – Fiat-Chrysler is recalled an estimated 156,498 heavy-duty Ram trucks in the U.S., including the 2014 Ram 2500 and 3500, because some steering components may have welds with insufficient fusion, the automaker said on Thursday.

“This may lead to separation, which may affect steering,” Fiat-Chrysler said in a statement.

It noted: “Capability remains, but with diminished response.”

Other trucks included in the recall are the 2013 Ram 3500 and 2014 Ram 3500 Chassis Cabs.

Fiat-Chrysler said it is aware of a single minor incident related to the recall, but no injuries.

Ram dealers will inspect and repair any faulty bracket welds.

The recall begins in October when customers will be notified to contact their dealers and schedule an inspection. Fiat-Chrysler said a second mailing will then advise owners to have their dealers install a reinforcement bracket, provided their vehicles were not repaired in the recall campaign’s first phase.

Owners can contact Fiat-Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403.

No information about the recall has been posted on the Web site of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which oversees vehicle safety in the U.S.

Edmunds says: Owners of these trucks should schedule a service appointment once they receive their official recall notice next month. Those with immediate concerns should contact their dealer now.
