2014 Jeep Cherokee Recalled for Windshield Wiper Problem

AUBURN HILLS, Michigan – Fiat-Chrysler is recalling 158,671 2014 Jeep Cherokee SUVs because static buildup may disable the windshield wipers.

“An investigation by FCA US discovered static buildup may occur if the vehicles’ windshield wipers are activated during dry condition,” the company said in a statement. “Significant static buildup may affect a control module that powers the wipers.”

This is part of a larger global recall of 206,668 Jeep Cherokees.

Fiat-Chrysler said it is unaware of any related injuries or accidents.

Jeep dealers will install a ground strap to the control module to eliminate the potential for static buildup. A date has not been specified for the recall. Owners can contact Fiat-Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403.

No information about the recall has been posted on the Web site of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which oversees vehicle safety in the U.S.

Edmunds says: Owners of these SUVs should expect to receive a recall notice in the mail within 60 days. Those with immediate concerns should contact their dealer now.
